Tasting the flavours in the feast of lifeTime and youth slip away, while familial love stays
The union and separation of a five-generation family make for moving scenes at the dining table. The story revolves around Sam and Nicole, whose shared life of romance, marriage and parenting unfolds over time, while familial values are passed down the generations. Every meal is a capture of familial affections and conflicts, yet love and life always come to an end. What matters is to learn to cherish the family time at the dining table, and to live in the moment. Lauded as Best Play of the Year by Chicago Tribune, The Big Meal, translated and directed by Artistic Director Anthony Chan, was premiered in Hong Kong last year to wide acclaims, as the work provoked deep reflections on family relationships for the audience. The fast-paced drama features a cast of eight actors performing 26 roles and fluid scene changes. With its staging in Shanghai this time, the play returns the journey of life with its plethora of flavours to the stage.
